St. Patrick Center - Building Permanent, Positive Change

Mike Heck, past President of the St. Patrick Center Board of Directors, has passionately served the mission of St. Patrick Center since the late 1980s. Throughout this enduring relationship, Mike has not only served as Board President, but was also the first elected President of the Development Cabinet, as well as having served as a member of numerous Board committees. As a member of the St. Patrick Center family, Mike feels that it is an honor to serve in whatever capacity, the "greater work of God."

President George W. Bush honored Mike as a shining example of volunteerism on a trip to St. Louis in July of 2005. President Bush met personally with Mike, and the conversation was very casual. "He said, 'Hi. How are you doing?' and I said, 'Mr. Bush, thanks for coming.' Then he said, 'I've heard a lot about St. Patrick Center. You all do great work there.' I said, 'Thank you. A lot of people work really hard for the mission.'"

As a child, Mike's family instilled within him the values of supporting church, school and community with whatever means available, and Mike internalized that message to the point that it has become a driving force in his life.

Mike, and his wife, Jeannie, both believe that "what you valued and supported in life should continue to be supported by you in death." It is because of this that Mike and Jeannie have set up a Planned Giving component to their estate, declaring St. Patrick Center the beneficiary.

As a financial advisor, Mike has assisted many of his clients in considering what is most important in life when planning their estates. Having asked this question of others so many times, Mike and Jeannie began to contemplate what is most important in their lives, and that is to remember to support those less fortunate, as well as passing along the value of sharing with God's creation to their children. Planned Giving will offer the Hecks the opportunity to create that lasting legacy of hope and support. They will provide continual and meaningful help to those who are homeless and at risk of becoming homeless.

Planned Giving allows you to give to people you'll never know, people you'll never meet who are suffering hardships you can never relate to, people who will be around long after you are gone, people who will make changes in their lives that bring long-term stability for their families- because you cared.
